Your employer plan may not match your income

Is this you? A salaried executive or professional whose employer group plan may not match your income.

Group plans often cap benefits, so higher earners can be underprotected. And coverage usually ends if you leave the employer.

We help executives and professionals understand what their workplace plan would actually replace, then compare supplemental income protection, family protection and wealth-planning options.

The Risk Assessment is a free educational questionnaire about your income, existing protection, business and planning priorities. It adapts to your answers: 15–19 questions, with no medical questions. Allow about 5 minutes (estimated; take longer if you need).

You'll get your score and a call offer, not a sales pitch. The current Calendly session is 60 minutes.

What typical group plans do and don't cover

Often included

  • Health and dental benefits up to plan limits
  • Group life insurance, often a multiple of salary
  • Long-term disability, usually a percentage of base salary up to a monthly maximum

Often limited or missing

  • Income above the plan's benefit cap
  • Bonus, commission or equity compensation
  • Coverage after you leave the employer
  • Critical illness protection

General information only. Group plans vary widely; your own plan booklet and contract decide what is covered.

Where your plan can be exposed

  • Group disability benefits may be capped and replace less of your income than expected.
  • Workplace coverage usually ends or changes if you leave, are laid off or retire from the employer.
  • Bonus, commission or equity pay may not be counted in group benefit calculations.

Questions and answers

Can I supplement an employer disability plan?

Potentially. Eligibility and available amounts depend on income, existing coverage and underwriting.

Does workplace coverage follow me to a new employer?

Not always. Portability or conversion depends on the plan, so personally owned coverage may be worth reviewing.
