New to Canada? Understand what your coverage covers and what it doesn't

Is this you? New to Canada and unsure what your coverage here covers.

A new system takes time to learn. We explain it calmly, step by step.

Vital Shield helps eligible newcomers in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia understand living benefits, life, health and dental, savings and family-planning options in plain language.

The Risk Assessment is a free educational questionnaire about your income, existing protection, business and planning priorities. It adapts to your answers: 15–19 questions, with no medical questions. Allow about 5 minutes (estimated; take longer if you need).

You'll get your score and a call offer, not a sales pitch. The current Calendly session is 60 minutes.

Help in your language

If English isn't your first language, tell us when you book or call and we'll do our best to help, including bringing a family member or friend to the conversation.

Where your plan can be exposed

  • Waiting periods: provincial health coverage and some workplace benefits may not start right away.
  • Provincial health gaps: dental, prescriptions, vision and income during illness are often not covered.
  • Credit history: having no Canadian credit history can affect some applications and is worth planning around.

Questions and answers

Can a newcomer apply for insurance in Canada?

Does provincial healthcare replace health or income coverage?

No. Provincial healthcare covers eligible medical services, while personal health, dental and income-protection plans address different expenses and risks.
